A commonly unused benefit of many premium travel rewards credit cards is the ability to get hundreds of dollars in benefits, just by booking hotels through a banks travel portal. For The Amex Platinum, it's booking through their Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program, for the Capital One Venture X it's booking through their Premier Collection, and for the Chase Sapphire, it's booking through The Edit.

What is The Edit

_The Edit, which is formerly known as Chase's Luxury Hotel Collection (LHRC) allows cardmembers of various Chase cards to access elite-benefits, just by booking through the Chase Travel Portal. Think of the Edit as almost a "Chase Sapphire Hotel" collection.

Cardmembers on the following cards are able to access these benefits:

• The Chase Sapphire Reserve
• The J.P. Morgan Reserve
• The Chase United Family of Cards (these cards have lost access to this benefit on September 2nd, 2024 -- This is now replaced with Renowned Hotels)

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the J.P. Morgan Reserve, you'll want to book The Edit hotels directly through the Chase Travel Portal by going to Chase.com --> Ultimate Rewards Portal --> Book Travel --> Search Hotels and all eligible hotels will have a little indicator with the words "The Edit" at the bottom. If you have the Chase United cards, you're going to have to book through the legacy Luxury Hotel and Resorts Collection website.

The Edit Benefits

While benefits vary property-to-property, generally speaking booking The Edit hotels through Chase come with the following benefits:

• Daily Breakfast for 2 (in some cases this is doled out as a daily breakfast credit)
• A $100 - $150 special experience property credit that varies by location (i.e. Spa credit, F&B Credit, etc.)
• Complementary Wifi
• Room Upgrade (upon Availability)
• Early Check In (upon Availability)
• Late Check Out (upon Availability)

These benefits are on top of any hotel-specific promotions that occasionally get run including (for example) pay for 3 nights, get the 4th free, access to the club lounge, etc.

Sweet Spots in The Edit Program

Short Stays

Since each stay comes with a $100 property credit, no matter if you're staying one night or seven, the optimal strategy to maximize this program is to book short, one or two night stays to maximize the $100 credit. To take this all a step further, if you book multiple one-night reservations, often you can ask at the front desk to link your reservations, so you don't need to move, however you may be eligible for one $100 for each reservation. However, YMMV.

Hotels You Don't Have Elite Status

Since The Edit hotels give you Elite like perks without having elite status, the optimal strategy to maximize this benefit is to use it at hotels where you don't already get benefits through Elite status. For example, if you have Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status, the benefit of Daily Breakfast for 2 would be already given to you through your Platinum Status, so the benefit with the Edit wouldn't be as valuable.

However, stays in a Boutique Hotel or at a chain you don't have elite status with is a great way to maximize this program. This can also be a great way to get elite-like benefits while you're on the path to earning elite status.

Earning Elite Status with Chase Points

If you have an Ultimate Rewards-earning Chase Card, including the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or the Chase Ink cards, you earn Chase points that can be transferred to Hyatt, IHG, and Marriott. While transferring your points is often a great value, if you're trying to hit elite status with a hotel chain that is not a Chase transfer partner (i.e. Accor, Hilton, etc.), you can use your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to book The Edit hotels.

The Edit (Chase Sapphire Hotels) vs Amex FHR (Amex Hotels)

While The Edit has many similarities to the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program, there are a few key differences:

• Amex FHR has guaranteed 4pm Late Check-Out, where The Edit is only upon availability
• Amex gives it's Platinum Cardmembers $200/year in credit towards a prepaid FHR stay, Chase Sapphire doesn't have a similar credit
• While FHR doesn't let you collect multiple $100 experience credits for consecutive one-night stays on different reservations, you can seemingly do this through The Edit, though YMMV
• You can redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for stays at The Edit. You can redeem Amex Membership Rewards for stays at FHR properties. You can also pay a cash rate through both programs
